The Sun Runner's Spring 2013 Little Petroglyph Canyon Tour

Join The Sun Runner on our Spring 2013 tour to fascinating Little Petroglyph Canyon, April 6 & 7.   This is a special small group tour and will sell out quickly, so please reserve your space soon.

The Spring 2013 Little Petroglyph Canyon Tour, The Sun Runner's third, will take place Saturday & Sunday, April 6 & 7 (Please note: As the canyon is on the Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake, there is always a small possibility the date may be changed by the Navy.  In that event, we should know well in advance and reschedule with input from our group).

Single occupancy and couple pricing is available. Pricing includes hotel accommodations for Saturday, April 6 in Ridgecrest, Sunday breakfast, and the Little Petroglyph Canyon Tour.

This trip, we’re going to meet in Randsburg, a living ghost town, for a little living history of the Rand Mining District.  We'll have lunch at the Randsburg General Store where you can order a phosphate over a marble bar brought around Cape Horn on a sailing ship.

If time permits, we will pay a visit to the pioneer's cemetery in nearby Johannesburg, or perhaps if the group prefers, a visit to the Ridgecrest BLM Wild Mustang and Burro facility on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday evening's dinner is open in Ridgecrest.  You can find steakhouses, Japanese, Thai, or other varieties of food in Ridgecrest. We’ll check into our hotel and if folks want, they can head out to the nearby Trona Pinnacles National Natural Landmark for sunset.

Sunday morning, we’ll be up early for breakfast, and then on to Little Petroglyph Canyon, the largest concentration of Native American petroglyphs in the western hemisphere.  This canyon (also known as lower Renegade Canyon) is incredible, and we will spend several hours inside the canyon exploring this beautiful cultural and spiritual site.

Rates for double occupancy/couples have remained the same since our last trip – $199 per person, and single occupancy accommodations have gone up to $249. Rates include the Little Petroglyph Tour, hotel accommodations for Saturday night, breakfast Sunday morning, our Saturday itinerary, the Randsburg historical program, and perhaps a nice surprise or two. Watch this page for additional details on the tour.  Saturday itinerary is subject to change.

When you sign up for this tour, please send us an e-mail with your contact information to: publisher(at)thesunrunner.com. Thank you.  A 10% discount is available for military and previous tour attendees (we will refund from the Pay Pal payment).

Note: You must be a U.S. citizen to enter the Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake, where Little Petroglyph Canyon is located.  All tour attendees must undergo a background check conducted by the Navy.  You must be in good health, able to hike the canyon (easy to moderate).  No children 10 years old or younger are allowed.  No pets allowed.  Appropriate footwear required.

No refunds available after March 15, 2013, unless tour is rescheduled because of a Navy scheduling conflict.  All attempts will be made to reschedule for a date that works for as many tour attendees as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience should the Navy reschedule.  No refunds given for weather conditions - we don't control the weather and we get charged "weather" or not we go.  Conditions in the canyon can range from hot to cool as it is located over 5,000 feet in elevation in the Coso Mountains (they're beautiful, and it's usually quite nice).  Lunches for Sunday's tour are available at an additional cost.  The Sun Runner Magazine is not liable for injuries or accidents that occur while driving, hiking, or otherwise engaging in the tour or related activities.  Little Petroglyph Canyon can have moderately uneven rock surfaces, as well as sandy surfaces.  We will have professional guides accompanying the group and if you are uncertain about an aspect of the tour, please contact us in advance and we will attempt to answer your questions based on our previous experiences in the canyon with groups.  It is our goal for everyone who joins us to have the very best experience possible.
