Harrison House....the house that keeps on giving all year long

Dear Readers,
It is time to show our love to our treasured Harrison House.  I am such a fan of the world music Eva Soltes and Harrison House bring to our tiny corner of the universe here in Joshua Tree. Join me in supporting their efforts with a charitable contribution this Christmas season.....the season of giving. Robin Linn / Desert Rhythms

Dear Music & Arts Lovers:

What a great year for Harrison House Music & Arts! With the help of our generous supporters we provided deeply moving residency experiences to ten composers and over fifty musicians and visual artists, brought a wealth of world-class music and art to our high-desert community, and expanded our facility with a new outdoor stage and a building to house our offices and archives.

Some of this year’s highlights include:

*Presenting a dazzling outdoor performance by the Balinese Gamelan Burat Wangi where thirty-five dancers and musicians enchanted a crowd of nearly 200 under the full moon. “Truly a magical and humbling experience, on par with dancing for the Dalai Lama at the Hollywood Bowl and at a temple ceremony in Bali.” ~Casey Lee Sims, Dancer

*Pairing an emerging and an accomplished artist in an exhibition for our first Open Studio on the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council Hwy 62 Art Tour. “This was my very first show and it changed my life.” ~Keith North, Artist
*Hosting a rare gathering of Serrano elders and tribal members to share bird songs, coyote dances and storytelling originating from their deeply-rooted Native American history in this region. “One of the top ten experiences of my many years living in Joshua Tree.” ~Tom O’Key, Astronomer/Community Activist

*Screening the feature-length documentary LOU HARRISON: A World of Music to rave reviews and overflowing crowds at the Ojai Music Festival, at REDCAT Theater for the Los Angeles premiere, and at two film festivals in Canada.

We are grateful to our donors, audiences, staff and volunteers for making it possible for Harrison House Music & Arts to continue its mission of bringing gifted individuals into an inspiring and supportive setting to create new work, opening Harrison House as a cultural center for local and visiting audiences, and spreading Lou Harrison’s legacy around the world.

Exciting plans are underway for 2014! Please join us in our efforts to “keep it going” by making your contributions online:http://communityin.org/project/harrison-house-music-arts/ or by mail to the address below.

Your partnership is important to the continuation of our program and donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. As a special gift, the first fifty contributors of $500 or more will receive a DVD of the yet-to-be-released documentary film LOU HARRISON: A World of Music.

Warm wishes for a new year filled with art and inspiration.

Sincerely,
Eva Soltes
