Poetry by Michael Jeffreys, Yucca Valley

Moon’s High Shadow

Beneath the morning sands of here

and other colored lands so near

the soul of earth and time before

along a vast and distant shore

through older bluer skies we breathe

atop the vacant ancient seas

where rock and needle now reside

within a silent sunlit tide

of gentle life and noble tree

and many other eyes to see

the starry nights of moon’s high shadow

across the sands and evening meadow

under feathered wing and cloud

and call of life we hear aloud

Michael Jeffreys is a 50-year-old poet who has been living in the Morongo Basin for 19 years. He is currently a full-time student at Copper Mountain College, and lives with his wife and two children in Yucca Valley.
