A walk on the Nature Trail, led by Desert Naturalist, Darrell Shade, and an update on the “Curiosity” by special guest, Dr. Tim Parker of the JPL Mars Rover team and Ray Yeager will highlight Discovery Day on Saturday, April 20, starting at 9 am.
Families and life-long learners of all ages are welcome at this free event at Sky’s the Limit Observatory and Nature Center, just north of the entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park on Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms.
Space is limited, so participants are asked to register in advance at the Twentynine Palms Park and Recreation Office at 74362 Joe Davis Road, next to the Skateboard Park or by calling 760-367-7562.
Other activities will include the opportunity to look through solar scopes and a spectroscope, and the opportunity to step into our solar system via the Orrery.
Everyone is strongly encouraged to bring water bottles, chairs, and their own snacks, to wear hats and plenty of sunscreen, and to dress for unpredictable desert weather. Should severe weather cause the event to be cancelled, check the website for re-scheduling information. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
