This summer, the Community Light Opera and Theater Association will present Li’l Abner with a book by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank, music by Gene De Paul, lyrics by Johnny Mercer and directed by Larry Lier. Li’l Abner, which is based on the comic strip by Al Capp, is a broad spoof of hillbillies, but it is also a pointed satire on broader topics, ranging from incompetence in the U.S. federal government to standards of masculinity.

The play has parts for several men and women with good comedic timing and the character ages range from twenty-something to fifty-something. Most roles require singing, dancing or both. Interested actors are encouraged to come to auditions which will be held Friday, May 3rd at 6PM and Saturday, May 4th at 2 PM at Center Stage, 1425 N. Inyo.

Performance dates for this comic strip brought to life will be July 18, 19, 20, 26, 27, August 1, 2 and 3 at 7:30 P.M., with a Sunday matinee on July 28 at 2 P.M. For more information, please call the CLOTA hotline:446-2411.
