(Palm Desert, CA, February 2017) – On February 18th at the Dawson Cole Fine Art Gallery in Palm Desert, California, internationally acclaimed figurative sculptor, Richard MacDonald, will be exhibiting new work inspired by the theme of “Duality” – the idea he describes as the melding and balancing of opposites to create balance, harmony, and insight into the principles of Ying and Yang. MacDonald has achieved international distinction for his sculpture, paintings, and drawings, and his work has been shown and exhibited worldwide including London, Singapore, Barcelona, Paris, Hong Kong, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.

MacDonald will also be unveiling a portrait bust of Dr. Zein Obagi, world-renowned authority on skincare and founder of ZO® Skin Health and ZO Skin Centres®. As a patient of Dr. Obagi, MacDonald was inspired to create the bust, in part because of the dual nature of their relationship. “I find it very interesting that I’m sculpting him in clay,” says MacDonald, “while he’s sculpting me in science.”

An award-winning inventor, educator, and author, Dr. Obagi was the first to conceive new skin as a science, and coined the term “Science of Skin Health,” which defined skincare to include creating and maintaining healthy skin. “It’s my true honor to work with such a great genius and beautiful human being. A man who brings art and science together to create beauty. It’s been my great pleasure to know Zein Obagi and his lovely wife, Samar,” says MacDonald.

The public will have the opportunity to view the collection and bust on Sunday, February 19, at an open house held by the gallery from 12pm to 3pm.
