Palm Desert, CA – McCallum Theatre presents Conjunto Primavera, a popular Latin sextet who has set themselves apart from the genre through their distinct sound of the saxophone, the voice of Tony Melendez, and the special touch of the accordion. On September 1 at 8:00pm, the group will bring to the McCallum stage their numerous romantic and nostalgic hits delivered in a variety of styles including cumbias, rancheras and norteño.
It was over 30 years ago, on March 21, 1978 (the first day of spring) that Juan Dominguez decided to embark in a musical adventure, thus Conjunto Primavera was born. By 1981, their hits "Sufro Por Ti", "Borracho Y Loco", "Amor Fingido" and "El Corrido Del Chore" opened the door to their professional career, a path that has led them to top the music charts and reach the highest levels of popularity in both Mexico and the United States.
Over the years, Conjunto Primavera has received numerous awards and standing ovations in sold out concerts both in the United States and Mexico. In 1998 their album Necesito Decirte sold over one million copies. 2000’s Morir De Amor reinforced the musical traits and style they had acquired throughout the years. This critically acclaimed album included the chart-topping "Enamorado De Ti", "Jugando Al Amor", "Dime, Dime", "Maldita Seas", and "Morir De Amor."
Recording industry awards and recognition include: Billboard Magazine’s ‘Regional Mexican Album Of The Year, Male Group’ award in recognition of their album Ansia De Amar; BDS Certified Spin Award (May 2002) for their single “No Te Podías Quedar”; Billboard’s (2003) 'Regional Mexican Airplay of the Year’ for their hit "Perdóname Mi Amor"; ‘Premio Lo Nuestro A La Música Latina’ award; and a Latin GRAMMY® for their song “Aún Sigues Siendo Mía”.
Their long list of accomplishments has all come about by the vision of the group’s founder and saxophonist Juan Domínguez, who directs and works closely with the rest of the group members; Tony Meléndez, lead vocalist; Felix Contreras, accordion and keyboard; Rolando Perez, bass; and the newest group members, Adrián Anthony Regalado on the drums and Francisco Mata on the six-string bass.
