The Haunting of Vincent Van Gogh
An original comedy at Groves Cabin Theatre

Groves Cabin Theatre in Morongo Valley is delighted to debut “The Haunting of Vincent Van Gogh,” a new comedy by local playwright Dolores Becker-Trost. The play will open on Saturday, November 2, and be performed Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. for four weekends through Sunday, November 24.

Playwright/director/artist Dolores Becker-Trost, who has won three Desert Theatre League (DTL) “Best Original Drama” awards for her series of plays on the lives of great artists “Vincent Van Gogh” in 2009, “Picasso” in 2012, and “Georgia O’Keeffe” in 2013, offers us another original production, this time a comedy centered around her play “Vincent Van Gogh”.

A theater company from California has come to The Blue Rose Theater in New York to produce the play “Vincent Van Gogh.” The principals of the small company, director C.J., assistant director Charlie, and theater tech Joey, are more than eager to stage the production, but they are mysteriously plagued by things repeatedly going wrong. Unknown to them, the ghost of Anna Carbentus van Gogh, Vincent Van Gogh’s mother, has taken a strong dislike of how her son is being portrayed and has set about to discourage, disrupt, and derail the show, thus setting up an intense contest of persistence and wills. Who will win this cataclysmic contest? Come see “The Haunting of Vincent Van Gogh,” a light-hearted romp that will delight audiences of all ages.

Velma Demaray portrays the director C.J.; Audrey O’Brien plays assistant director Charlie, Kat Anderson handles the role of theater tech Joey, and DTL Lifetime Achievement award winner Joy Groves plays the ghost of Vincent Van Gogh’s mother. Playwright Becker-Trost directs her own creation.

Groves Cabin Theatre has won numerous Desert Theatre League awards for its high quality productions. The tiny 22-seat theater offers one of the most intimate theatrical experiences in the world—that experience having been described as being, “like being a fly on the wall, witnessing real life happening before my eyes.” The limited seating means early reservations are a must.

“The Haunting of Vincent Van Gogh” plays Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. from Saturday, November 2, through Sunday, November 24. Groves Cabin Theatre is located at 8768 Desert Willow Trail in Morongo Valley north of Highway 62 (look for the large red, white, and blue stone on the north side of the highway). Tickets for all seats are $12. For additional information and reservations call: 760-365-4523;
