A reading of the student literary publication, “Badlands,” will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, to celebrate its 2013 release at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus.
“Badlands,” which is published annually, features original creative work (fiction, non-fiction and poetry) in Spanish and English, original translations from Spanish and Latin American literature, and is edited by students at CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus.
The magazine also accepts original visual art submissions, including photography. The current edition includes photographs from around the region, including Slab City, Joshua Tree and the area around the Salton Sea.
Contributors to the 2013 edition will read from their work and the local band Town Troubles will perform. The reading will be at 6 p.m. in the campus’s Oliphant Auditorium. Admission is free and parking is $5 per vehicle.
The “Badlands” editors encourage students, faculty, staff and members of the community to attend, hear the readings and pick up a copy of “Badlands.”
“Badlands” accepts submissions online at https://badlandsliteraryjournal.submittable.com/submit. The public is encouraged to submit work for the next issue.
The publication is made possible by funds from the university’s Instructionally Related Programs Board.
