Dear Friends & Cultural Arts Lovers:

Harrison House Music & Arts will present will present an open house community celebration at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center Sanctuary in honor of Native American Month,

on Saturday, November 9th from 11am-1pm

The program "Serrano Culture & Serrano Bighorn Sheep Songs" will be presented by elders and members of the Serrano People from the San Manuel, Santa Rosa and Morongo Tribes, including: Ernest Siva, James Ramos, Paakuma, Raymond Marcus and Kim Marcus and will feature a traditional tobacco blessing, Serrano big horn sheep songs, and an ancient coyote dance along with Serrano songs and stories from this region.

Ernest Siva, Historian and Cultural Advisor to the Morongo Band of Indians is one of few remaining speakers of the Serrano language and works tirelessly to preserve and teach it. San Bernardino County Supervisor James Ramos leads cultural activities for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and is also Chairman of the California State Native American Heritage Commission. They are joined by a group of elders, members and family all of whom are deeply committed to the preservation of California Indian culture.

The event is free and open to the public. We encourage everyone to join us for this celebration of rich Native American history and tradition.
