We are pleased to welcome Bansuri Master Steve Gorn to Harrison House for a concert on Thursday, September 13 at 7:30 pm. Gorn’s music arises from the wellspring of Indian classical music, a living tradition rooted in nada yoga (the yoga of sound). Attuned to the time of day, quality of light and awareness of environment this music offers a unique sonic landscape for healing arts, yoga and meditation, and is also a fascinating resource for today’s improvising musician.

Thursday’s concert will be a solo performance of Indian classical-fusion music on the Bansuri bamboo flute, combining the essence of classical Indian tradition with a contemporary world music sensibility. The strength of this music is grounded in a virtuoso mastery, generating a vibrant fusion – alive and accessible to western ears – with a haunting, lyrical sweetness that brings the healing breath of the sacred to our demanding contemporary lives.

Steve Gorn has performed Indian Classical Music and new American Music on the bansuri bamboo flute, soprano saxophone, and clarinet in concerts and festivals throughout the world. Well known to audiences in India and the west, Steve is one of the few westerners recognized to have captured the subtlety and beauty of Indian music. He is featured on the 2011 Grammy winning recording “Miho – Journey to the Mountain” with the Paul Winter Consort, as well as the Academy Award winning documentary film Born into Brothels. His CD Luminous Ragas is a landmark recording of music for yoga, and other recent recordings include Rasika with Tabla virtuoso Samir Chatterjee, and Illuminations with Nepali flutist, Manose. www.stevegorn.com
