reactive music, not machine-made,” says Richey, who grew up in
Wichita, Kansas, hence the project’s name. Inspired by 1960s and 70s

charismatic performer and exceptionally talented songwriter, Kevin
Richey has been playing music since the age of two, when he was given
his first guitar and sang “Joy To The World” in front of his amazed
family. He studied the banjo, guitar and sitar in Lawrence, Kansas and
then moved to Portland, Oregon to immerse himself in the vibrant folk
and Americana music scene. He relocated to Joshua Tree, California and
took his place in the thriving desert rock scene. He recently toured
Europe, playing lead guitar with British band Proud Mary, Noel
Gallagher’s first signing to his Sour Mash label, returning home to the
desert to work on the songs for WICHITA.
is a reflection of Richey’s lifelong obsession with the power of music
to transport both him and his listeners to another place. And with his
influences and inspirations worn clearly on his sleeve, he’s now taking
his place among the same stars that first inspired him to create music.
