Description:

March 14 all day field trip to historic Goffs. Sign up beginning March 3

Founded in 1893, the town of Goffs is located on 75 acres in the Mojave Desert 2 hours from Twentynine Palms . It has a rich mining, ranching, railroading, homesteading and cultural history.

The visit begins at the “town” that was once a famous stop on Old Route 66 before the state rerouted the “Mother Road”, bypassing Goffs. Hugh and Carol Brown of the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association (MDHCA) will give a brief introduction, before we take a self-guided tour of the 1914 Goffs Schoolhouse Museum.

Next we will go over to view the 6000 volume Mojave Desert Archives, which is stored in a replica of the Goff’s Depot. Join us for a day steeped in history.

Members $10 and non-members $15. Contact Claudia jrcs7599@roadrunner.com 760-366-7896 to sign up.
