Dan Zanes and Friends
part of the 2012-2013 Field Trip Series

Description:

Palm Desert, CA — On Monday, November 5 at 9:30am & 11:00am, McCallum Theatre Institute, the education division of the McCallum Theatre — a not for profit organization, will present Dan Zanes and Friends as part of the 2012-2013 Field Trip Series. Over two thousand PreK-5th grade students and teachers from local schools will dance and sing right along with Dan Zanes and his gang of musicians.

"True children's music, but executed with such sweet (and un-gooey!) humor, casual multiculturalism and shambling groove that you can call it your own."

-The New York Times

What in the world is troubadour Dan Zanes up to? In this kaleidoscopic concert, he has pulled together a smattering of songs from all sorts of places — and he's expecting us in the audience to actively participate in their performance! “One thing I do feel strongly about…there is a place for everyone, young and old, when it comes to music making,” he offers. And indeed this former member of the 80s group, The Del Fuegos is on a bit of a one man crusade these days to put music making back in the hands of the amateur. Audiences are enjoined to sing along, provide a bass line of rhythm by clapping, and even rise from their seats to dance, embodying the music in the most kinesthetic way. He truly puts the music making in the hands of all! And what music? The journey ranges from English farming tunes to Zulu folk songs. Let the music making begin!

Throughout the school year, the Series will take students of all ages on a journey through the arts. See below for a list of performances offered on the Series. For performance descriptions and photos please visit www.mccallumtheatre.com/education/fieldtrip.php.
