Free Community BBQ, and Concert in the Cemetery.


Joshua Tree, California- Joshua Tree Memorial park is proud to announce its 11th annual Memorial Day Observance, Community BBQ, and Concert in the Cemetery. For over a decade, this quiet, little desert cemetery has been hosting a unique annual event that continues to grow in attendance and popularity. All ages, from the surrounding communities and beyond, are invited to attend these events on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th starting at 11a.m. Located along the outside basin of the Joshua Tree National Park since 1968, Joshua Tree Memorial Park, formerly known as Mountain Valley Memorial Park, has been hosting an annual Memorial Day to pays homage to the fighting men and women of the United States Armed Forces, both past and present, by commemorating and acknowledging their service, dedication, bravery and sacrifice.

This year’s event will feature an hour long formal observance that includes a placing of wreaths ceremony, a special reading of active duty fallen heroes from our local marine base, a white dove release, a color guard, rifle salute, and much more. We are honored to welcome Brigadier General George W. Smith, Base General for the United States Marine Corps Base in 29 Palms along with Assemblyman Paul Cook, a retired Colonel for the United States Marine Corps and the current assemblyman in California’s 65th district as our guest speakers.

The event will again feature a diverse line up of musical acts that follow the Memorial Day Observance. Flag ship performer Shawn Mafia & The 10₵ Thrills, who have been performing for the event since 2004, will make their annual appearance. Other acts include The Shadow Mountain Band, “Solid” Ray Woods, Dandy Brown and special guest appearance by Z107. Local Music Showcase host Ted Quinn.

Joshua Tree Memorial park will begin the Memorial Day Observance ceremony Monday, May 28th, at 11:00 a.m. Live music and family friendly activities will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. and will continue on until 4:00 p.m. From 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. the cemetery will provide a community barbeque. Specified food and beverages will be free to all that attend during that time. Alternate vendors for food and beverage purchases will be available. Family friendly games, large inflatable jumpers, local area vendor booths and a mobile unit of the Joshua Tree Fire Department with an engine will be on hand. Event admission and parking is free.

Joshua Tree Memorial Park will also be raffling off many great prizes, donated by local area business, through the course of the entire event. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase the day of the event and at the event only. All proceeds will be donated to the Hospice of the Morongo Basin and the Morongo Basin No-Kill Shelter.
