Runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts from throughout the desert area are training for the 22nd Annual Grubstakes 10K, 5K and 2K Run to be held in Yucca Valley on Sunday, May 27, 2012. The Grubstakes Run is open to experienced and novice athletes of all ages and fitness levels. While the 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles) runs are timed competitive events, the 2K run/walk (1.24 miles) is a favorite of those who wish to participate in a healthful but non-competitive event.

All of the Grubstakes Run loop courses start and finish at the Yucca Valley High School football stadium, located at 7600 Sage Avenue, and wind through residential areas on the south side of Yucca Valley. Starting time for the 5K and 10K races is 8:00 a.m. followed by the 2K start at 8:15 a.m.

Awards will be presented to the top three male and female overall finishers and also to the top three male and female finishers in each of the nine age categories. The 2K participants will receive a certificate recognizing their effort. The $20 entry fee includes registration, event t-shirt and post-race refreshments. Children under 12 and seniors 60 and over may register for $18.

Sponsors this year are Five Star Fitness, Hi-Desert Publishing Co., Bruce Jones Dentistry and Z107.7 FM Radio. To enter the 2011 Grubstakes Run event, register on-line at or return a completed entry form and registration fee to the Community Services Office at the Yucca Valley Community Center, 57090 Twentynine Palms Highway, Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, call the Community Services Dept. at 760-369-7211.
