A Queer Carol

Playwright Godfrey gets into the Christmas spirit with A QUEER CAROL, a decidedly gay take on Charles Dickens' tale of a miserly old man who finds redemption on Christmas Eve through a series of ghostly visitations.

A contemporary version of the holiday classic, A QUEER CAROL is a blend of outrageous humor and holiday sentiment with the spirit and meaning of the Dickens story. Ebenezer "Ben" Scrooge is a successful but stingy interior designer. Bob Cratchit is his underpaid assistant, lacking health care insurance for himself and his HIV-positive lover, Tim. When the ghost of Scrooge's former lover and business partner Jacob Marley shows up in leather laden with chains, Scrooge notes: "You were always into bondage, Jake." In a unique twist, The Ghost of Christmas Past is Marilyn Monroe and The Ghost of Christmas Present is a flamboyant drag queen.

The Desert Rose Playhouse production features Steve Fisher as “Scrooge”, Aaron Zontek as “Marley”, Cat Lyn Day as “Christmas Past”, Loren Freeman as “Christmas Present”, David Brooks as “Bob Cratchit”, and Alex Enriquez as “Young Scrooge/Tim”, with Jason Kraid, Terry Huber and V.J. Hume. DRP Artistic Director Jim Strait directs with scenery and costumes by Allan H. Jensen.

Performances are Fridays & Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 2 PM.
