The Shady Rest Band

With the highly successful release of their debut album !MERICA… in

early 2012, The Shady Rest Band and their foot stomping skiffle grass

sound continue to turn heads wherever they go. Since moving to the live

music capital of the world over two and a half years from the small ski

town of Mammoth Lakes, California high in Eastern Sierra the band has

been in high demand playing over 200 shows a year.

After playing bars, parties, campfires, and festivals all over the

Eastern Sierra for almost two years, in the fall of 2009 the band packed

up and decided that Austin was going to be the place where they could

really make things happen. Shortly after their arrival they picked up

their first residency, which they still hold, at the famous Cheatham

Street Warehouse in San Marcos where they can be seen every Friday for

their acoustic happy hour. Often they are joined by guest musicians who

enjoy the loose and friendly approach that The Shady Rest Band is known

for while the boys rip through their ever growing catalog of over 70

original songs. Playing almost 90% original music and filling spots in

their uncommonly tight sets with tasteful cover tunes the bands busy

schedule has them playing regularly at The Taproom and Sean Patrick’s in

San Marcos, Last Concert Café in Houston, and the Double Wide in

Dallas. In the past year the band has been seen at many Austin hot spots

which include Fado, Trophy’s, The White Horse, The Gypsy Lounge, The

Salt Lick BBQ, and many others. 2011 was kicked off with their first

west coast tour supporting their self released EP “Shirts are Bad Luck”

and was highlighted at the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels

opening for Leon Russell and Bob Dylan last summer. They recently

returned from a highly successful nine city tour through the west with

shows in Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Phoenix, San Diego, Mammoth Lakes,

Boulder, Kansas City, Tulsa, and Dallas supporting their new album

!MERICA… and plan to stay busy this summer while preparing to go back

into the studio to record a follow up album. This 4 piece band features

three songwriters who swap instruments on the fly, Benjamin Blair

(Guitar, Banjo, Upright Bass), Jaz Lee Short ( Upright Bass, Guitar),

and Nate Guthrie (Mandolin, Guitar) , with CK Dangerbird (Washboard,

Harmonica) filling out the vocal arrangements. The Shady Rest Band has

proven time in and time out that there is no room too big or small to

get people to cut loose and enjoy a live music that defies all

traditional genres performed by 4 friends who love what they do.
