for On Golden Pond

Auditions will be held Sunday, February 17, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph of Aramethia Episcopalian Church, at 56312 Onaga Trail in Yucca Valley for The St. Joseph’s Players debut production of “On Golden Pond”.

The church is located on the corner of Church Street and Onaga Trail. Its Parish Hall boasts a small stage with seating for 50 patrons, and it will be home to the newly formed theatre group, The St. Joseph’s Players, which is composed of local actors and church members lead by award-winning Director/Actress Rebecca Havely.

Ms. Havely most recently directed "Lost in Yonkers" at Theatre 29. She also directed "Wit" at Groves Cabin Theatre and "Crimes of the Heart" at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s Black Box Theater, both of which were nominated by the Desert Theatre League (DTL) for awards for Best Direction. Previously, "Another Day in Baghdad," also at the Black Box Theater, garnered Havely a Desert Star Award for Best Director from the DTL. The St. Joseph's Players have joined the DTL, and this production will qualify for Star Award nominations.

Ms. Havely has selected the popular "On Golden Pond" as their debut production. The all-volunteer group is seeking actors to audition for the following roles:

Chelsea Thayer: The only daughter of Norman and Ethyl. She has never gotten along with Norman and feels Ethyl is always on his side. She's divorced but in love now with Bill Ray. She's attractive and fit and should be played by an actress approximately 30-45.

Bill Ray: The dentist to whom Chelsea is engaged. His 13 year old son Billy will be living with him now after being mostly with his Mother. This somewhat deadbeat Dad is confident and a bit cocky, but very much in love with Chelsea. He's becoming satisfied with his new-found life changes. Actors from 45-60 may audition.

Billy Ray: Precocious, bratty and worldly for his age, Billy is an intelligent but suspicious and guarded young kid. After living mostly with his Mom, he has no positive male role model in his life until he meets Norman. This character grows throughout the play as he accepts the love of Norman and Ethel. A strong young actor is needed for the role; he should look 13 but actors from 12-18 may audition.

Charlie Martin: The Postman, and the only local from Golden Pond, Maine. He's always had a crush on Chelsea growing up. He has an infectious laugh and is light hearted and likable. Actors from 30-55 may audition.

The roles of both Norman and Ethyl Thayer have been pre-cast. Norman will be played by veteran actor, Abe Daniels. Daniels won the Desert Star award last year for Best Supporting Actor in "Wit", directed by Havely. Sue Kelly, also a DTL Award winning actress, will play the role of Ethel Thayer.

Acting experience is not a necessity but helps a great deal. Please bring calendars, date books, the auditions to coordinate availability to the show rehearsal and performance schedules. There is no need to prepare anything as you will be reading from the script.

Rehearsals will be most weeknights from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. plus a couple of Sunday afternoons from March 11 – April 25. Not all actors will need to be at every rehearsal. Performances will be on Friday and Saturday evenings and some Saturday Matinees from April 26 – May 18.

The production is also seeking a stage manager and a stage hand; if interested please attend the auditions.
