Bret Maling

Artist Profile:

As an artist, I have been influenced by nature’s gentle seduction, with its many colors and forms. Through my art I am compelled to create new ways of fusing these three elements together.

My medium of choice is oil. Its warmth and richness adds elements of depth, strength and beauty to art. Working with oil, one must have patience and this adds to the mood and sense of anticipation with this art form. Immediacy is one that oil generally does not allow, so drying time is just one of those virtue moments.

My artistic journey began on an Impressionist’s path, but recently crossed over into a new and vibrant style, which translates to me as Organic Abstraction. This has allowed me to dig deep and meld together all that I have learned over the years. I feel that I am creating some of my most personal and dynamic work to date.

I was told long ago while painting a garden scene, “Purple dirt, no one will buy a painting with purple dirt!” That person obviously was not familiar with art expression or the Impressionist Masters for that matter. That was the first painting that I ever sold. I continue to push the color spectrum, as wide open as I possibly can.

An artist musings, an offering: I look to appeal to a sense of beauty, mystery and wonder from the viewer, an intimate solace.
